Features

Conversation

Voice

Speak naturally and hear back in real time. Fast enough to feel like a real conversation. Prefer typing? Text works too.

Wake words

Say your trigger word and go hands-free. UNI listens passively until it hears it, then captures your request. Provided via plugins.

Local LLMs

llama.cpp is built in. Run language models on your own hardware with no cloud dependency — download a model and go.

OpenAI-compatible API

Connect any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — cloud services like OpenRouter, or run locally with vLLM, Ollama, and others.

Your character

Personality

Choose from presets or write your own character — custom name, traits, and example dialogue that shape every response.

Voice engines

Multiple TTS engines with different strengths — from voice cloning to naturally expressive speech. Provided via plugins.

Avatars

Live2D and VRM avatars with reactive expressions that respond to the conversation in real time. Provided via plugins.

Audio effects

Post-process TTS output with reverb, pitch shifting, or custom effects to shape UNI's voice further. Provided via a plugin.

Themes

Change colors, fonts, and accents with CSS. Over a dozen presets are included, or write your own. Theming guide →

Capabilities

Memory

UNI remembers facts about you across sessions — preferences, names, past topics. All of it stored locally and encrypted at rest.

Tool calling

Plugins can give UNI abilities: search the web, set timers, check the weather. Sensitive actions require your approval before UNI proceeds.

UI cards

Plugins can push interactive content to your screen — weather forecasts, countdowns, confirmations, or custom widgets.

Context injection

Plugins can feed UNI information you'd otherwise have to say yourself — the current time, your recent emails, the weather outside.

Impulses

UNI can act on its own — remind you of an appointment, greet you when you connect, or check in on a schedule.

Vision

Share your camera and UNI can see what you see. Ask about what's on screen, read text from a photo, or get visual assistance.

Privacy & access

Encrypted storage

Personal data is encrypted at rest and connections use HTTPS. UNI unlocks with your passphrase — no cloud account required.

Device pairing

New devices must be paired before they can access UNI. You control which of your phones, tablets, and browsers connect.

Multi-device

Pair your phone, tablet, or laptop and talk to UNI from anywhere in your home. Just connect from your browser via your local network.

Local-first

Everything runs on your hardware by default. Cloud services are opt-in — nothing leaves your network unless you choose.
